Who is SpaceKids Global:

SpaceKids Global is a Florida based nonprofit, with the mission to educate and engage a national audience of elementary students in STEAM+ Environment activities, that inspire them to pursue careers in space exploration and technology.

What is the SpaceKids Press Squad:

The SpaceKids Press Squad (SKPS) is a national competition hosted by SpaceKids Global. Eight students plus one parent or legal guardian will be selected for an exclusive opportunity to visit Blue Origin’s Rocket Park manufacturing facility in Florida to tour the rocket factory, visit NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, and receive press training from a real-life reporter.

While at Blue Origin, the SpaceKids Press Squad will interview engineers, spacecraft designers and managers to learn about their careers and experiences. They may also watch the official live webcast of a Blue Origin New Shepard rocket launch taking place at Launch Site One in West Texas from the Blue Origin Mission Control center in Florida.  If the launch occurs as scheduled, the Press Squad will have the chance to remotely interview several of the astronauts from the crew, including SpaceKids founder Sharon Hagle. The competition is open to United States students ages 8– 12, enrolled in public, private, parochial or home schools. There will be a total of 8 individual students selected as winners.

There are three special categories of winners that will be selected. One of the eight selected will be the child of an active-duty military personnel. Another of the eight selected will be the child of an active duty first responder. For the purposes of this competition, “first responder” is defined as an active firefighter, police officer, paramedic,  EMT, corrections officer, or 911 dispatcher. The third will be a member of any Boys & Girls Club in the United States.

A random drawing of entries will take place on Friday, June 14, 2024. A total of 24 finalists will be selected, who will submit a :60 video about why they want to see a launch. Video format and specifications will be provided to the finalists. The eight winners will be selected from the finalists, and will be notified and announced to the public on Friday, August 2, 2024.
